I met myself in a tram

If you remember my post, I met myself for a coffee, this is a sequel I wrote at the end of August. Enjoy!

It was a Friday morning, and I was sitting in a tram. I sipped a cup of coffee I made myself at work, and I was on my way to my apartment.

Then I saw her.

It was the teenage me, sitting a few rows before me, eyeing the cup of coffee in my hand. She didn´t drink coffee, and never thought she would. I waved at her to come over. When she asked, why am I drinking it, I said that I had learned to drink it while working for a corporation.

"You work for a corporation?" she asked in awe. "Yeah," I said, "and in the Prague area that you always found to be full of people who have their lives together."

"Awesome!" she smiled and sat next to me.

Then she frowned: "It´s Friday morning, shouldn´t you be at work now?"

"Nah," I shrug, "I have a home office. I was in Vienna from Wednesday to Thursday, and now a fridge is to be delivered to my apartment, so I have to go there to collect it."

"Hold on," my younger self stopped me, "you travelled to Vienna? With whom? And we already have an apartment?!"

I laughed: "I travelled to Vienna alone for a concert, and yeah, we have an apartment!"

The younger me widened her eyes: "You travelled alone. And to a CONCERT? How can you enjoy travelling or a concert without anyone there?!"

I told her all about my trip, and though she wasn´t sure she would enjoy it, she was impressed that I did.

"Wow," she whispered, "I can´t believe we live alone, have an actual adult job, drink coffee, and travel alone."

"I know, right?" I sighed.

"Isn´t it scary or lonely to live alone? I always have to put on some music and have the lights on, so I don´t get creeped out," the teenage me frowned.

"I thought it would be," I nodded, "but it´s so freeing and peaceful, I don´t feel any fear. Since the rooms are so colourful, you can´t feel any coldness in there."

My younger self gave me a side eye: "What do you mean colourful? We always wanted a minimalist beige modern apartment!"

I laughed nervously and said: "Maaaaybe I painted one room yellow, and the other green. Oh, and we have an orangutan called Lil´ Jim Bob on one door and a flamingo called Marcus on the other."

This earned me a look full of shock, disgust.

"But it looks amazing," I assured her.

She didn´t seem convinced, but her tram stop was up, so she couldn´t ask for further explanation. We hugged, both fond of the other's version. One, because her future was bright, and the other, because she knew that no matter the age, she deserved that hug.
