Pride and pre-...sents?

Life is full of unexpected turns—such as going to the manor of the most people-hater person and facing tons of eager Christmas fans. The person in question is no one else than Mr Darcy. My friend and I, huge fans of Pride and Prejudice, decided to use my Erasmus stay for a higher good and visit Chatsworth House. This beautiful building was used as Mr Darcy´s home, Pemberley, in the 2005 movie version of Pride and Prejudice. We expected a gloomy, mysterious atmosphere surrounding a stately home in the Derbyshire Dales. Oh boy, weren´t we mistaken.

I mean, who would choose the visit date in the freezing beginning of November? The whole of England, apparently! While walking through the fields of Chatsworth House, we passed car after car, packed parking lots, and couldn´t help but be confused. What are all the people doing there?

Well, little did we know that that day was the start of Chatsworth House Christmas Market. So, instead of the peaceful, quiet walk, we got pushed through a crowd of people shopping for Christmas. It´s the beginning of November, for Christ´s sake!

Despite everything, the trip was lovely. Acres of green grass, majestic trees, and herds of deer stretched into the distance, creating beautiful surroundings.

You can get there easily by using different bus routes. We took a train to Chesterfield and then travelled by bus 170. The ride was full of sights, and since Chatsworth House is located in the Peak District, we felt dazzled by the beauty of the English countryside. I believe some nice hikes could be done in the area, too. It would only add to the whole Elizabeth Bennet´s charm, for she is very fond of walking, which, yes, yes, I know.
