Picnic basket? No, thanks. I prefer a spear

In this post with a very peculiar title, I would like to cover the topic of university societies. For a Czech student, it is very surprising, especially the number of societies that function on the academy grounds. You could be sporty, introverted, religious, talkative, queer, creative, funny, dull, or intelligent, and you would find a society tailored to your preferences. It is a delightful way to socialise. And most of the societies aren´t expensive to join. But how did we get into the picnic basket and spear topic?
As a student of De Montfort University, you can join many events throughout the academic year. Especially in the beginning, there will be a wide range of options, from parties, open-air cinema, and crafts to sports tryouts. My friend and I decided to join an event called Park Life. We imagined a lovely forenoon spent with frisbees, plaid blankets, and cricket. However, our plans drastically changed. It began with our invasion of the Medieval Society meeting, which we misunderstood for the Park Life meeting. Then we saw its members head the same way as we did. And when we saw them gathered not far from the park, we took it as a sign.
So, instead of doing average outdoor activities, my friend and I learned how to fight with a dagger, hold a shield, use a spear, and the rules of combat. Let it be known far and wide that the clashing of steel in honourable combat hath no equal, not even a picnic basket!
