Just follow the canal

This post aims to be a Leicester travel guide (don´t take it literally, though). Thanks to my two best friends from the Czech Republic visiting me, I discovered my current home city a bit more. It is simple, really. You just need to follow the canal. I live in Castle Court, located next to Castle Gardens, a beautiful park full of fluffy squirrels. And just by crossing the park, you get straight next to the water. There is a pavement by the canal, which you can take and either go north or south.

Our first trip was going south. It is a way full of exciting sites. In the first part, you walk through the city, eventually changing into nature. Maybe it was thanks to the true British weather, but the path seemed truly mysterious. You´ll end up in Aylestone Meadows, a natural area with countryside vibes. Then we wandered through the town back.

Our second trip was north. We went through Abbey Park, disturbed by a mass of runners. I swear, the runners are overpopulated here, especially on the weekends. Then we walked some more, passing the National Space Centre and ending up in Birstall Nature Reserve. On the way back, we wanted to wander through the city once more but decided to take the easy way out by taking Melton Road. We were pleasantly surprised; it was full of Indian shops that sold sarees and scented sticks, sweet shops with Indian snacks, and decorations for Diwali.

In conclusion, I got to feed ducks, bought a Ganesha statue, and ended up with shoes covered in mud. What an amazing adventure!
