Gilmore Girls grievance

Destroying the plot for money is happening on a daily basis. But I did NOT expect to see that in Gilmore Girls. There were definitely high expectations, given that it has 153 episodes, and the premise suggests it may become tiresome and complicated. I was pleasantly surprised, though, to finish the series with satisfaction. That was before I saw Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Where to even start? Alert: this will contain spoilers.

I was furious when Paris and Doyle split up, because I will die on that hill, where I scream from the top of my lungs, they were the best couple in the show, along with Babette and Morey. They complemented each other so well, they literally matched each other´s freak.

Change my mind, but they shouldn´t have had kids. Paris is career-driven, just like Doyle. They both need to be in control. These two factors are not exactly a kid-friendly environment. You can see this in the series, where the kids often have a nanny and are scared of their own mother.

Michel left Dragonfly Inn. Lovely. It´s like removing the walnut cream layer from a honey cake. It may work, but the taste has become bland. And Sookie, too? Just serve me the base of the honey cake with no flavour and cream, why won´t you?! I understand his departure, but the plot should never have gotten to that point.

I hate that Richard is out of the picture. I get the reason, but Emily without Richard is a sad image. However, I loved how life turned out for Emily. That might have been one of the rare moments when I liked the plot. When she left to live by the beach and became a museum tour guide? Along with the Hispanic family, what melted her cold exterior? What a twist!

I hated that she fell out with Lorelai (again). It never fails to break my heart. But how they made up when Lorelai shared her precious memory with Richard? I cried, my friends, I cried.

Lane and Zach. Zach and Lane. There are many people in the show who didn´t age a year. And then there´s Zach, giving you the white basic guy with a beer, burping and scratching his belly. He looks older than some of the actually old actors!

And Lane looks like a proper mom. Where is my rock and roll badass drummer? I´ll never forgive the director for ripping the dream of the rockstar from her and getting her pregnant. And with Zach, for Christ´s sake.

And finally, we are getting to the most annoying part of the show - Rory. People warned me I would dislike her in Gilmore Girls. But I was quite tolerant of her, until this show.

She is an unprofessional, spoiled little brat with an elitist view on the world, who feels like she´s better than everybody else.

She is a mistress of a MARRIED man, and has the AUDACITY to be sad about the fact that he is at times prioritising his fiancée. When they call her from a web she feels too good to write for, and then waltzes there when she has nothing else left, she is so unprofessional it made my skin crawl.

She just expects them to hire her because she´s Rory Gilmore. When the chief editor asks her how she´ll contribute to the company, she can´t even answer, and then she´s furious that they don´t want to hire her.

I would CRAWL into a hole if I were her, but she not only doesn´t feel embarrassed, she starts to scream at the chief editor and INSULT her. Wow.

I hate the fact that Lorelai doesn´t put Rory´s feet on the ground. When she forbade Rory from writing a book about them, Rory did it anyway? I was FUMING! And she manipulated Lorelai into thinking she somehow OWES it to Rory, and if she won´t let her write it, she´s a bad mom.

Continuing with the mom mention, what do you MEAN the last line of the movie is; I´m pregnant? Such a poor choice of a plot twist.

The plot line with Paul, the easily forgotten boyfriend, was cruel. I got the joke, but he should´ve lasted for half an episode, and not the whole series. Rory just kept messing up in all of the life areas.

I don´t understand what Jess sees in her. Speaking of Jess, I have no idea where he got those ARMS, but I´m not complaining. He gave me a Jackston Rathbone vibe, and I´m here for it.

But I did like the wedding in the end. I liked Luke´s speech and the whole concept of the event.

To summarise it, this was the butchering of a feel-good series. They ripped the story of its grave and tried to bring it to life for money. Never a good idea.
